It only has reference to post-April 2007 housing estates where there is vacancy above 10%. It therefore a) excludes estates where vacancy is below 10%, b) excludes unoccupied/unfinished one-off housing, c) it assumes that estates started prior to April 2007 are both finished and have occupancy levels above 90%. There are lots of houses in pre-2007 estates that are empty; the same with one-offs. Irishpropertywatch.com reports about 115K houses for sale in state and 20K for rent. In other words, it’s a partial survey and we’ll need to wait for census 2011 for a fuller picture.”

So, "we have the numbers", eh? (by counting only a small subset of the "empties". Were you practicing your "mental reservation" there?Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15193967878132778767noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11965515.post-59737262916054599742010-11-02T18:53:34.205+00:002010-11-02T18:53:34.205+00:00Hello Ciarán,

Now, you announce 33,000 "units" empty. Would you care to enlighten us as to the discrepancy, or is the 33k just your count "so far", as B. Lenihan would say?

Michael.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15193967878132778767noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11965515.post-75025806535983941812010-10-31T13:00:51.666+00:002010-10-31T13:00:51.666+00:00Fascists zombies turn green as they begin to rewri...Fascists zombies turn green as they begin to rewrite History. Despite the State's CSO findings.. has there been a third property bubble we didn't get the memo on. Maybe you've shipped the houses out of the country to be recycled by Chinese children?

Here is one of those "Facts" you hear people talk about.

Vacant dwellings

There were 266,000 vacant dwellings in 2006 representing 15 per cent of the total housing stock. Of these, 175,000 were houses, 42,000 were flats and 50,000 were classified as holiday homes. County Leitrim had the highest percentage of vacant dwellings (29.3%) while 11.7 per cent of dwellings in Dublin City were vacant at the time of the census.. From the side lines we watch.

http://www.cso.ie/newsevents/pr_census2006vol6.htm

From the sidelines we watch unamused.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11965515.post-56310177040005190752010-10-26T20:57:35.561+01:002010-10-26T20:57:35.561+01:00A really interesting and informative post Ciarán. ...A really interesting and informative post Ciarán. Really glad I found it on twitter. I think it would be very helpful if we could know more about what the TD's and Councillors who form the governing bodies could explain more of the decisions they're making.

What would be even more helpful is if someone could tackle the huge issue of job creation (well, the lack thereof). There have been so many ideas, suggestions and initiatives from the private sector but the Government has been all but vacuous on the topic. The €3.3mln Enterprise Board funding, the €500mln VC fund ambition - these could have been put into action 2 years ago?

Will read the rest of your posts!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06142914827010036758noreply@blogger.com
